Shylo MC - Future Thinkin/Traffic

Q - How long have you been involved with DnB?
A- I’ve been raving since 1993-94, started Future Thinkin in
1997, so I guess 10 years in the music and 7 in “the scene”
Q- Can you remember your first public
appearance and if so what was it like?
A- Yep, done asset with Bad Company @ Scala in 2000 at a Future
Thinkin event called FUTURISM, was nervous as hell, spent most of the
night mc’ing from a dark corner of the stage a speaker stack, hence
Shylo…
Q- How did you get your first big break in the
scene?
A- lol - No big breaks, just 7 years of hard work, sacrifice,
strained finances, and dedication.
Q- What tune are you feeling at the minute?
A- Cyantific’s got a tune with a “Star” vocal sample in it,
feeling that, pretty much anything Calibre Produces gets the thumbs up plus
“Decades” and “You Again” always get me moving at traffic…
Q- What your favourite lyrics/trick do you
currently use?
A- Difficult to say, although the more I work with MC System &
I-One, the more we find these little vocal combinations. I think the “DJ
touchin down” is my hottie at the moment…
Q- If you were to collaborate with anyone who
would it be?
A- I’d love to work with Ursula Rucker & 4 Hero. 2 Pages
totally flipped the way I looked at the power and depth of D&B, plus
there’s a lot of deeper stuff I write that would be totally lost in a
club environment, 4 Hero & Ms Rucker could do them justice!!
Q- Most Memorable moment of 2004??
A- too many to mention! Logging onto DNBA and finding out Mixmag
gave us Best D&B night of 2003, or having loads of people at traffic
telling us that they “come for the residents, the guest are a bonus”
Q- what do you want to achieve by close of
2004
A- Being real, a lot of what I set out to achieve with Future
Thinkin has been done, so I’ve had to set myself some new goals and
aims, the main one at the moment is to get myself in the studio on a
regular basis, so many ideas, so little time!
Q- Who do you rate as an MC?
A- From the OJ’s (Original
Junglists) I’d have to say GQ, Dynamite & Fats are top of the tree,
from the 2nd Gen of MC’s, Mojo, SP:MC, System, are my personal
favourites…
Q- Who do you rate as a DJ?
A- All the Future Thinkin DJ’s are quality Danny Exile & DM
C.U.T can stand alongside the best in the country IMO. F.T. aside, Storm,
Klute, TeeBee, Nookie, & Fabio all do dancefloor damage…
Q- What was your back up plan in life if you
weren’t doing this?
A- I.T., hate working a 9-5 but its what’s kept FT afloat for so
long…..
Q- Would you ever do top of the pops?
A- Good Question…with going to deep into the whole commercial,
selling out argument, yeah I’d do TOTP in the same way that I'd do any
music show. As long as you maintain your credibility and control over how
your work is presented there’d be no problem. Although whoever had
control over the release of Midnight should be f*ckin shot, such a great
tune, such dismal promotion and an even worse video. Perfect example of a
clueless Music industry that has no idea how to push D&B to the masses
without making it crud.
Q- Who wouldn’t you work with??
A- No -one springs to mind although I would draw the line at the
Cheeky Girls or anyone else giving Edam a bad name!
Q- Who would you like to bed??
A- lol - already have bedded her and it was great, thanks! :op
Q- What DNB forums do you use?
A- Im on DNBA all the time, but skip across to DOA on occasion, Im
also a serial lurker on londondnb.com!!
Q- Playing next??
A- Just got back form a great gig in Athens, mc’ing for Bailey
and Wilsh which was great, looking forward to Essence of Chi on the 21st
and traffic in May..
Q- Where you going on holiday this year?
A- Hoping to find myself back in Athens at some point in the
year….
